Bret,

Nice blog! It’s your birthday! Happy birthday from your family back home! We are proud of you, pilgrim! I saw a WWII vet today and looked him in the eye and said, “Thanks for freedom!” He presented a glowing smile in return. A similar message goes to you and your fellow walkers, “Thanks for standing up freedom”!

Enjoy your special day! 25, eh? We wish we could celebrate with you today, but we with you in thought and prayer!

Love,

Dad and Mom, Ryan and Abby

Why We Have Rights - Why I’m Walking For Freedom!

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

It is government’s primary responsibility to protect the rights of it’s citizens. America is unique in that our Constitution gives the people the ultimate check on power, and the government is accountable to it’s people. If we can no longer hold government accountable, then the system has fundamentally broken down. Voting obviously is no longer enough. We have been given two “major” candidates, neither of whom are even willing to acknowledge there is a problem. Thankfully, the Constitution protects our rights to the degree that we can do something about it.

Like it or not, the Constitution is the supreme law of the land. When we allow government to flagrantly violate it, we are no longer under the rule of law. It’s not a matter of partisan politics, it’s a simple matter of obeying the law. We need to restore the Constitution’s authority and restore the rule of law.

More than anything we need the people to strongly assert their rights and reclaim control of government. We can only do this together. We should be grateful that we are empowered to legally and non-violently change regimes in Washington.

You have a right to your life.
You have a right to not go to work, and you have a right to physically possess your own money. You have a right to sound gold and silver money.
You have a right to travel freely, without papers or ID, and without fear of being detained, or searched.
You have the right to speech.
You have the right to believe what you choose.
You have a right to a responsible free press.
You have the right to petition the government for redress of grievances, which means you have the right to withhold the payment of taxes until your petition is addressed. The Declaration of Independence is a petition for redress of grievances.
You damn sure have the right to discuss your Constitutional rights without fear of being put on a watch list.

You own yourself. You own your life. Therefore you have the right to own property and be sovereign over it. You have a right to bear arms to protect that property. There are no kings because we are all kings. THAT is the founding principle of the united States of America.

This is what the Ron Paul people believe and are fighting for. It saddens me that there are those who would call us nuts. Maybe a people so blinded and foolish that they would set themselves against their own freedom, deserve no such thing.

Considering The Other Candidates

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

I have noticed (as I’m sure many have) that Bob Barr is making a concerted effort to tap into the rich voter vein of Ron Paul supporters, and this brings up the question of who we will vote for in November.

I have issues with Bob Barr.  His history and voting record as a right wing republican creates many problems on many levels. I’m sure that Mr Barr and most RP supporters are aware of this.  Since his conversion to the Libertarian Party, he has not held office or power, so as of this moment, his conversion is lip service.  We are being asked to trust that he has had some sort of catharsis and change of heart.

Chuck Baldwin on the other hand is a RP supporter and has been participating in the Campaign since before he chose to run for the Constitution Party.  I have seen him on video claim that America is a Christian nation, and that our founders were all Christians.  While I’m a Christian myself, I find it a bit disturbing to hear religious diatribe injected into the political process … regardless of whether it’s Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Hindu or Rasta.

For both of these candidates, for me … the jury is still out.  I am sure I have much time in the three week walk to meet many other Ron Paul supporters, and share a great many ideas. We have the Rally in Minneapolis where I’m sure there will be many announcements, and much more brainstorming.  I am sure that by thetime the rally is over (and the hangover has subsided!), we will all be much more informed and focused on election day. (more…)
