Bret,

Nice blog! It’s your birthday! Happy birthday from your family back home! We are proud of you, pilgrim! I saw a WWII vet today and looked him in the eye and said, “Thanks for freedom!” He presented a glowing smile in return. A similar message goes to you and your fellow walkers, “Thanks for standing up freedom”!

Enjoy your special day! 25, eh? We wish we could celebrate with you today, but we with you in thought and prayer!

Love,

Dad and Mom, Ryan and Abby

Meetup Groups

August 27th, 2008

This is Bret Hatch thanking everyone for the support as this is my first blog,

I feel that all of our meetup groups need to switch over to Campaign For Liberty Meetups in order to gain popular credibility with a non partisan perspective to the public on a constitutional basis…So we are respected on a educational principals and are more attractive to Public Schools and concerned citizens thanks again for your support- Keep the Revolution Going- Live Free or Die

Remembering Freedom

August 26th, 2008

Yesterday we strolled into the quaint town of Elk Mound and met a man doing stone work with his wife.  He stopped to tell us how his 92-year-old dad says, ” I remember when we used to have freedom in this country.”

This is a snapshot of our current reality.  That’s why it is important that we actively educatate our communities about our constitutional rights and their current violations.  We can’t let freedom be a pleasant memory of the past; we must fight to restore it.

A Mile Away

August 26th, 2008

It couldn’t have been more than a mile away that it hit me.  It was over.  I wasn’t going to get up the next morning and walk with the guys.  Ouch.  The tears welled up.  They welled up again when I journaled in the airport and again when my sister picked me up at LAX.  I guess that’s what happens when you spend a week with men of truth and conviction.  You grow to love and respect them and to want nothing but the best for them.

I am back in California now thinking about the walkers and how very different and special each one is.  It’s amazing to witness a diverse group of men unite and carry an indispensable message of freedom to the people. I am thankful to have been a part.

Guys, thank you for your willingness to make a statement as you walk and share the freedom message.  My life has been enriched by your humility, honesty, wisdom, wealth of knowledge, compassion for others, and, of course, by your songs.  You have my utmost respect.

So to bright-eyed, childlike Mike; gentle and wise Jim; generous, tough-skinned and sweethearted Tony; Nick, who has yet to amaze himself; understated Cody; Grant, a man who attempts difficult things; lovable, crazy Brett; kind-hearted, encyclopedia-for-brains, man of grit, Rod; and all the rest of you men, keep up the good fight, and know that I will stand by you to the end of this battle.

Walk on, my friends!

Report from Elk Mound

August 26th, 2008

Yesterday saw us at perhaps the smallest town along our route, Elk Mound, WI, population 785.  The town is about 3 blocks long, the extent of which reminded me of a cow town in the Old West.  Spent most of the day  replenishing our gasoline supply, cleaning RVs, washing clothes, promoting in town.  Rode our red bicycle up to Elk Mound Park, a quaint spot of land sitting on the tallest hill for 10 or 20 miles in any direction.  On top was a three-storied castle dating from the 1930s along with a flag pole, visible for miles.  The view from the ramparts is magnificent.  John drove me and I managed to join the last 2 miles of the walk into Elk Mound.  Alyssa took off for California.  We were all quite unhappy to see her leave.  Her sister Sara will join us Tuesday.  That is one dedicated family!

Our town meeting was held in a bank where other civic organizations such as the local Boy Scout Troop meet.  Since our promotion effort was on such short notice only one couple showed up, but they were very significant to us.  Ben Olson, Libertarian, is running for Congress in the Wisconsin 3rd District, a vast area stretching from both southern and northern borders along the western edge of the state.  Ben arrived with his wife Holly and son Eric.  All were eager to hear what we had to say, and asked many good questions.  Ben and Holly will join us for the walk today from Elk Mound to Monomenie.

Over 200 miles walked, probably only another 60 miles to go.  Minneapolis and a day with destiny awaits!

Another day in paradise

August 25th, 2008

This really is alot of fun.  It’s hard to believe that I would enjoy myself the way I have over the last two weeks.  Too bad I’m not a poet.  I really wish I had some beautiful way of describing my experiences to you all.  Alas, I am but a mere carpenter.  I’m a ordinary man in persuit of extrordinary goals.  Sometimes I worry I don’t represent all of you the way you deserve.  Maybe, just maybe,  I’ll do you guys proud.  I feel alot of weight on my shoulders, but the love in this group helps carry that load.  Ilove to read all of your comments.  It’s a great moral support to me.  Thanks!

Alyssa left for home today.  I hate that she had to leave.  We all have obligations.  Thanks Alyssa.  The world is a better place with you being a part of it.  I hope our lives someday cross once again.  May you find that one special person taller than you.

Love to you all,

Rod

Eau Claire, WI- Obamanation

August 25th, 2008

Hey Everyone,

I’m writing from Eau Claire, WI.  We arrived in town yesterday, coincidentally the same day as Obama was giving a speech here.  Needless to say, media did not cover the walk in this city.  Yesterday was also the first day that we had two townhall meetings in one day- Chippewa Falls at 1PM and Eau Claire at 6PM.

The Chippewa Falls meeting went great, as many members of the VFW came out to attend, as well as others that we had met the day before.  By the way Chippewa Falls is also home to a great beer called Leinenkuggel’s (sp?), they Honey Weiss they make is very good.

The best thing about Eau Claire was the hotel that let us all take free showers and use the pool and hot tub.  We all had a great time last night.

We had three people join our team since I last blogged: John, Buddy, and Al.  John was originally from Eau Claire, but is now living in Virginia, he was going to the Rally but came up early to visit relatives, he is a real great help to us. Buddy and Al are also two great guys that came up from Kentucky, and have been a huge help on our promotion team.

Well it’s about time to head out to Elk Mound.  On to the next!

In Liberty and Truth,

Nick

Beautiful Morning in County X (Alyssa’s Blog)

August 24th, 2008

This morning I was greeted by a green field and sun streaming through the trees - what a pleasant contrast to the truck stops. As I sit here typing at a picnic table, I realize how much I’ve grown to delight in, and respect, the men I am walking with. They have great minds and hearts, and I am going to miss them.

Yesterday’s highlights include Jim’s “Itten ditten little kitten …” skat, and our attempts to learn it; beautiful views, a bull scrimmage, talking about favorite books, walking upon a bustling bar of bikers, and finding Dave and Karen at Latigo and Lace. Our message is solid and it resonates with the people in county X. The citizens here have encouraged us with their political activism and involvement; we met two individuals who ran for the senate. Hopefully we’ve encouraged them as well.

All is well; walking with men of truth and conviction blesses me deeply.

Taking it to the Streets, Eau Claire and Chippewa Falls

August 24th, 2008

The walk goes 10 miles today to Chippewa Falls.  Will be presenting the last half of the presentation again today twice, at 1 PM in Chippewa and at 6 PM in Eau Claire.

Have already presented this three times, including yesterday in Stanley, WI, at the Stanley Historical Society,  an impressive museum.   Several townspeople attended  on short notice including the mayor and a town councilwoman.  Questions following the session were mostly along the lines of “yes we agree with you but what do we do about all this?”  We explained that in addition to getting them the presentation and more background info that we intended to bring this message to college campuses and to those of high school age.

Our town hall meeting at Owens-Whithey was quite amazing, as it saw great interest from politically oriented townsfolk, including the mayor.  One fellow was very inquisitive and critical of our message, and asked plenty of good questions, not all of which were adequately answered, in my opinion.  The meeting, however, was a resounding success, and people responded with a very long involved QA session.

Abbotsford the night before, which saw my presentation debut, was another great evening filled with questions from politically minded citizens.  One attendee was a constitutional law student.  Another was a town councilwoman, and another a Ron Paul fan, John, from Eau Claire.

Kudos to Chris Rye and Corey from Stevens Point have put together 3 great videos which you can see on this website and YouTube.  Many of our townmeetings can be found on YouTube, some dozen or two in all.

Yesterday on the walk out of Stanley, we stopped by a bar overrun by a biker’s gathering.  Stepping up to the porch brought some apprehension, but our biker friends, some 50 in all, were unusually receptive to receiving pocket constitutions, even asking for extras for their buddies!  Our message of taking back this country and “power to the people” was music to their ears.  Amongst them was an ex state senator that Tony Bellanti, our activist friend from Milwaukee, spoke to about a mutual friend in the WI political establishment. To my great astonishment we discovered that our biker friends are a natural ally in the fight for freedom in America.

A crisp Sunday morning, following a 43 deg F night.  Fortunately found a wifi hotspot at the Latigo and Lace in Cadott, WI, otherwise this blog may not have been written for another few days.  Parked here last night, rolling our RVs into the middle of a parking lot filled with cars from the nearby horseshoe contest.
Now that’s Wisconsin!
